- Oral Health in a Norwegian Sámi Population

The overall purpose of the study is to investigate different aspect of oral health conditions in an adult indigenous Sámi population in Finnmark County in Northern Norway and to identify and analyse demographics and behavioral factors associated with oral health. The specific aims are to:
-Describe the prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease (i.e. gingival inflammation and periodontitis) in relation to distribution of sub-populations among participants with Sámi affiliations and to compare those findings with the Sámi speaking population in the same area
- Explore whether or not dental caries and periodontal disease affect oral health related quality of life (measured with OHIP-14) as well as the participants perceived oral health and satisfaction with their teeth
-Assess the oral health related quality of life in relation to distribution of sub-populations among participants with Sámi affiliations and to compare those findings with the non-Sámi population in the same area
-Study the association between sugar intakes, tooth brushing habits, fluoride use, attitudes and socio-demographic/ethnicity factors in relation to caries and perceived oral health.
